Common charges include Simple Assault (N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1a), Terroristic Threats (N.J.S.A. 2C:12-3), Harassment (N.J.S.A. 2C:33-4), and domestic violence offenses under the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act (N.J.S.A. 2C:25-17 through 2C:25-35).

New Jersey has a Pretrial Intervention Program (PTI) under N.J.S.A. 2C:43-12 that allows first-time offenders to avoid conviction. PTI may require anger management as a condition. New Jersey also has specific DV provisions under the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act.
